Intake Air Heater Code?!

Friends of mine are in from California, check engine light came on (2002 DA 2500 crew shortbox), noticed a little miss or surge at highway speeds.

Chevy dealers too busy to even pull codes, Autozone pulled code & turned out to be "intake air heater".

Is this going to be a problem for them to drive back to California from Indiana? :eek:

As long as the intake air heater isn't energized all the time, it might be OK. Otherwise, a burnout would be my concern - along with burnt heater coil bits being sucked into the turbo.

You can check with a multimeter at the heater electrical terminal. If there's battery voltage there, it's being powered. Should only be lit before/during a cold start.
