View Full Version : ATF in the Fuel Filter???
Buddy of mine has one of those four letter (F***)diesels with 350K on it and swears he fills his fuel filter with ATF every time he changes it to "break everything loose in the top end and clean it out".
I must admit I have never heard of such a thing. And I don't think I would be willing to try it.
Anyone over done that
This a common "old school" practice but it's NOT recommended for the Bosch Common Rail Injection system used on the Duramax...

Also try a forum search for "ATF Fuel"

a lot of old timers do this on their big trucks running mechanical fuel systems. also the thicker ATF primes easier. I don't recommend this in any diesel. it may not have been quite as bad on the old A,B,C Cats or the big cam Cummins but the fuel pressures in todays engines are up to 20 times higher then they are in those oldies. Belive it or not I had a customer who ran his E-model out of fuel, couldn't get it primed so he filled his fuel filter full of engine oil and was PROUD of himself for being so clever. it started,,,,, and ran like sh!t all the way to the shop where i procceded to replace all his now jacked up injectors.
