View Full Version : a new sound for a newbie
I was doing my first tow this past weekend with a trailer that weight 7000lbs to 9000lbs. This is the only way I can describe the sound. It sounded like the choke was on a gas motor. When it cold. The motor on the Dmax was up to temp the oil was fine. The temp out side was in the min 70

I have no idea what kind of sound you are describing from that description, but the most likely source of a weird noise under the conditions you describe is the fan clutch kicking in. The fan howls pretty loud when it is spinning at full engine rpm.
grmayer,
Another possible source of noise is the pilot injection shutting down at about 2500 RPM's. When you let off the throttle, you would slow back below 2500 RPMs and the noise stops. When you hear the noise again, check your RPMs.
If you do not know about the Pilot Injection use the search engine to read all the posts about it.
Don
