Hey There,

Let's have a milage for 2500HD owners. Currently I am getting 18 or so in town, and generally 22 to 25 on the highway, in imperial gallons. How about others???

16.6 for the life of the truck. I am averaging 17.3 on the highway and 16.2 for the city.

I am getting 15 around town and 20 mpg on the road but I am not letting any grass grow under my wheels. I pull a 5th wheel also. I have 15960 miles on my truck & 3100 miles pulling the trailer.My total average is 15.05 mpg. :cool:

17.25 miles per gallon, highest 18.65, lowest 14.3. Just hit 7000 miles(finally a good home use for excel!) Slow but steady increase, much may be attributed to warming weather. I got this truck November 22/02 so it's still a newbie.

I'm getting around 16 in mixed driving (60/40 city) and right at 20 on the road at 70-75. My worst is 14.3, I don't know what brought that on, and my best was just under 21 inexplicably in the high mountain passes of Colorado in the dead of Winter. I have just over 15k on the truck now, but my mileage has been good from the start.

That's 20.3 MPG lifetime, 24.7 MPG best ever, 19.7 worst not towing and 12.5 worst towing.
41.6 MPH lifetime, 70.4 MPH fastest tank, 33.6 MPH slowest tank.
$1.352/gallon lifetime, $1.019 lowest (3rd day I owned the truck, first time I filled it) and $1.719 highest (twice early this march).
Biggest fill was 25.35 gallon (assuming capacity really is 26.00 gallons I had enough for 8.9 more miles...that's shaving it a bit too thin late on Saturday night in Eastern Idaho! (Pulling the 5th wheel). I'd slowed down to 55 the last 50 miles into Idaho Falls, becasue I couldn't find Diesel fuel in the small towns along I-15 north of there. When in doubt buy fuel in Dillon, MT... even if you do have nearly half a tank!

What is it about Colorado that makes these things get such good mileage? My best ever was from Colorado Springs to Grand Junction by way of Hoosier Pass and Breckenridge. There's no air there. Don't these engines need to breathe occasionally?

I try to avoid "town" as much as possible. Not enough experience in urban/suburban to have any data.

In running up and down Vermont hills, I do about 18 mpg. In mixed highway driving in flatter country, around 20.5 to almost 22. In interstate driving at 75 mph, around 20.5 mph.

I have 6300 miles and recently changed to Rotella T synthetic, which seems to have added a half a mile per gallon or so. Perhaps the de-winterizing of the #2 diesel with Spring arriving has also helped.

Tire pressure can have a very noticable effect on mileage. I still have my 245/75-16 Steeltex A/T tires but am running 60 psi front 70 psi rear even when empty.

I am amazed because my old 1984 3900 pound Mercedes sedan with a 120 hp turbodiesel 3 liter 5 cylinder only gets about 25-27 mpg in similar driving, and its frontal area looks like a postage stamp compared to a 4x4 Crew Cab 2500HD.

I have an '01 Ext cab with 26K and I get a steady 17.8 - 18.6 city and highway at around 70-75 (anytime I can get away with it) with sprints to 85-92 ( I like that fuel cutoff feeling every once in a while LOL). I think I might have hit 19+ mpg once or twice, but never been to 20! Towing about 9K it gets around 14-15 steady every tank.

I have a 45 gallon tank and the low fuel light comes on around 650-670 miles and I push it another 75-80 miles then drop in around 40 gallons. You can set your watch by it, very predictable and rock steady per above. Never been surprised, never been disappointed.........
can't ask for more, one damn fine truck if you ask me!

420 plus hours, over 11k on the OD and pushing it to AVG 13 MPG. Town driving gets about 11 or so and the highway yeilds almost 16. This truck has never seen 400 miles on a tank of fuel, even on the HWY. :rolleyes: I try and stay within 5 MPH of the speed limmit.

My 10,600 mile average is 18.2. Now with straight #2 I'm getting 20-21 driving mostly highway to work. Last weekend I hit 22.0 on a 90 mile trip. We'll see this weekend if I can break that.

My 17,000 mile average is right about 20MPG hwy and city around 18MPG. No towing, cover on the back, ZF/6 tranny, 4x4, crew cab. I run about 2400rpm on the hwy running around 80mph usually.

23000 miles, 930 hours, 15.8 mpg lifetime. City is 14.5-15.5 depending on fuel and foot. Highway is 19-22, but don't get that "pure" highway very often.

9.71 worst (heavy towing over two passes)
21.04 best (cruising at 65mph unloaded)

According to my spreadsheet, the cost break-over for the diesel engine is going to be at 81000 miles. This is assuming that the gas mpg is 75% of the diesel. This is just on fuel, not any maintenance, oil change costs, etc.

I guess I bought a different truck than the rest of you. My CA 2003 2500HD at best I have gotten 16.7 worst 9.0 towing my little 24' travel trailer. Normally getting around 14. Maybe is the smog pump and egr and cat here in CA.

I get about the same milage as Permx11 with my 2003 Silverado Crew Cab.

I do a little better than he does while towing my 6000 lbs open car trailer, usually around 11.5.

I get between 14 and 16 unloaded in my daily routine. I drive lots of highway, and relatively fast (75 to 80) most of the time, but I'm not drag racing people from stop lights or anything.

I expected a bit better milage from this truck.

I've never gotten 400 miles on a tank. Average 15 -15.2 dialy driving and never take it over 2000 rpm. Don't know what else to do.

I have a 2001 with disappointing 15 mpg in town, maybe 17 on the highway. I'm not a lead foot. My partner has a 2002 and routinely gets 18 in town and 20 on the highway. Both trucks have Allison and 4x4. How much difference is there between the ZF & the Allison, ditto for the 4wd vs 2wd. BTW, I also am juiced, but as far as I can tell that did not affect the milage.

Highway driving (80mph): 18 to 19.5mpg
Towing car on open trailer (~5000lbs): 14 to 15.5mpg
Towing car in 24' enclosed trailer (~9500lbs): 11 to 12.5mpg
Most miles on tank: 601mi, still have 1.5gal left
Current odometer reading: 41,350mi

I've got 45,500 miles on mine, average about 16.5-17 highway and town mixed driving. the last tank was the best ever at 20.54mpg using gps odometer. Never in the shop for warranty, and I drive about 3-4mph over the posted speed. Second best tank was 19.7mpg on a scary ice covered trip back from Taos on Christmas-eve ,400 miles at 20-35mph in 4wd high.
Towing a 9000lb fiver , I get between 10-11mpg at posted speeds.

truck just turned 2 years old. Have 114,000+ on it right now, and averaging about 15 mpg. I gave up on getting good mileage looong ago. Havent even sniffed 18 mpg going downhill in neutral with the engine killed.

Maybe when I get the head gasket replaced it will be better... YEA RIGHT!

Just passed 26,000 miles. Never got great mileage with the truck...highway or around town...always the same. About 15. I'm living with it, it's twice as good as my old '01 Dodge V10. ;)

At 52,000 miles, I've had an overall average of 18.5 mpg with a high of 20.9 and a low of 15.0 (towing). Mileage on last 5 tanks has been excellent: 19.2, 19.8, 18.1, 20.4 and 19.8. This is all commuting driving, 25 to 75 miles, Pennsylvania roads and highway from 45 to 60 mph. Overall mileage by odometer cycles up and down a good bit, but shows a steady increasing trend from day one.

I'm a Newbie here (first post), but have been lurking for a few months after buying my first diesel in Oct '02. I now have a little over 12K miles on it.

I just got back from a 2300 mile round trip (no towing) and got between 18.5-19.5 mpg on the highway, running 75-85mph. Towing my enclosed snowmobile trailer in the winter, I saw 11-11.5mpg. I have not yet towed my boat any great distance to check that mileage.

I changed my fuel filter just before I left for vacation at 9,500 miles and saw no water in it. I used Power Service all winter. I have not cut the filter open, but I plan to.

Overall, I am VERY happy with the Duramax and can't imagine going back to a gasser. I had a 2000 2500 with the 6.0 previous to this.

Stock '03 CC D/A usually running with 700 pound in bed I get about 15.4 MPG with amix of 60% at 60 MPH and 40%"in town". I always run with a full tank of diesel. This drops to about 10MPG when I am towing the 7500 pound tag trailer. BTW I am always in hilly country, haven't had much experience in nice flat lands.

In contracts to our 98 Chevy gasser-- This is about a 20% better fuel economy and much easier on me as the driver.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I've been getting that great mileage running my "regular" Juice box in level 4. Mileage was always on a steady improvement, but seemed to jump when I switched over to Rotella-T 5W40 synthetic, it really seems to like the thinner, slicker oil!
