What has GM changed on the new fuel filter that they are giving away? I understand the previous filters had 10 micron filter media in them. The local Chevy dealer does not know what the improvement is with the new ones.

The new filter has "double pleat" filter media. In other words it has extra filtering media to improve filtering capabilities. More media, more filtering.

Can someone tell me what the GM part number for the new filter is?

I am about ready some maintenance and will be needing a new one.

Thanks,

Not GM part number but they are Racor and they make the filter for GM.

I work right next to a Chevy dealer and was planning on getting the filter from them - so - I will be needing the GM part number.

Thanks anyway,

Mark

You won't need the part#. The dealer has only one filter to sell, the latest. This was the purpose for the recall. The filters are the same for all model years. I suggest you take another look at TDP advertisers for your filter (among other things). The dealer won't bat an eye when they ask for your first born, just for a fuel filter.

Does anyone know if the micron size is any different then the original or was this change to increase filter life rather then removing smaller particles?

Actually, I'm sure there are a lot of dealers still holding the old filters in stock. As for the changes, the word is, we just have 2 layers of the same media. Absolute latest model is justa bit longer to try to extend service life.
