Considering MICHELIN TIRES

I am going to put new tires on my GMC 2500 HD Duramax. Considering MICHELIN LTX245 75R 16 Load range E. I am close to the weight limit on my rear axle. Any coments pro or com

I have just put on Michelin 265' go to my pic's click on the thumbnail and select FULL SIZE(top right corner) you can get a good look at the tires then.

I put LT245 Michelins on my 2500 about 5k miles ago. I am very happy with them. The truck rides and handles great. Sorry I can't help you with the weight question. Our trailer only weighs about 9500lbs with a tongue weight of only about 1000lbs. I usually run about 55lbs front and rear.

I had no real problems with the Firepops that I took off except they were bald in 22k.

If you are near your weight limit you might want to really consider going to MICHELIN LTX265 75R 16 Load range E. Your stock tire size (245) is rated at 3042 max load but the LTX265 max load rating is 3415. Now I am not going to tell you that by going to LTX265 you will increase the rear axle rating. The LTX265 will give you a rear tire max load rating of 6830# compared to the LTX245 rating of 6084 or almost an 800# increase in tire capacity. The same increase will hold on the front tires.
Based on what I have read on this site the rear axle actual rating is more than 6084#'s however there is more to be considered, axle mounting, shocks, frame etc but I feel better running tires that have a bit higher max load rating.

Don't think about it just go ahead and buy them. You won't regret it. I'm going on 60 thou on a 1 ton duelly. I do a 5000 mile rotation and rebalance religiously. Oh and don't forget to keep a close eye on tire pressures. If taken care of these tires will last a long time assuming no front end problems.
