Okay, I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed
but, What's the deal with these dump dip sticks
in the duramax? I absolutely can not get a good
read when checking my oil. I tryed checking it
this morning and when I pulled the d/s it was
showing oil about four inches onto the cable. What's that, 20qts over full? Truck sat overnight,
oil has no hint of fuel smell, normal oil pressure (38psi) at warm idle, and no apparent
coolant loss. I tryed checking it several times
using different metheds with no luck. Stick a
fork in me, I'm done. Any ideas?

On some of our trucks oil gets trapped above that lead fishing weight and gives a false read.Swabbing the dipstick tube to get out the excess is one way to get a good level.
My truck does not have this particular problem but it seems to be a common complaint.
I would try pulling the dipstick (cable) and letting it sit for an hour to drain the oil out of the tube and try again.
Let us know how it works out.

Keep an eye on it. Mine went several quarts over, appears there can sometime be a fuel leak into the oil. If thats the case head back to your dealer.

Instead of an oil level check, I need a spell check. :D Thanks for the replies guys. I tried
it again and got alot closer to the mark. It's
still a little high, maybe 2qts or so but I'll
have an analysis done on the next oil change just to make sure. I supply my own oil to the dealer
(Rotella T) for changes so I don't think they
could have over filled it. But if you don't do
it yourself, you just never know....
