Have 2004 Duramax LLY eng ,I pull apprrox 10000lbs
on fifth wheel. My pyrometer 3" back of turbo gets up to 1150f temp on some incline pulls and I'm getting a little concerned about this temp.
What is considered normal for this operation and
when should I start getting worried. Also do you have any recomendations as far as intake mod's
and exhaust changes .??

Are you running any mods? If not, just use that as safe baseline. I've seen as high 1250 with the probe mounted after turbo but that is with the hp turned up. I've read on this sight that people have held as high as 1475 up hills, so your within safe limits. As for intakes and exhausts, go with your gut, there's verry little difference from one to the next.

I've noticed that post-turbo probes read about 200+/-50* less then pre-turbo probes. I've seen temps in the 1450-1500* range sustained for a several miles uphill w/ no problems evident ( other then multipule temp gauges way over on the "bad" side). That dosen't mean you should try this if you can avoid it. I'm sure we reduced the lifespan of a couple of engine and tranny components
