Anyone have this issue come up? Have no fan at all until you go to speed 5. So, I roast or chill. Any thoughts? Thanks, D.

check your fuse the 5th speed is direct 12v to fan, 1 thru 4 run thru the switch and a resistor to regulate fan speed.

Thanks,
....checked 2 fuses named HVAC, one 10 and one 30 amp. Both OK. Couldn't find a "fan" fuse. Assuming these are it, where is the resistor located? Thanks in advance, D

The most common failure for your symptoms is the HVAC resistor module. Reletively inexpensive and easy to replace, but not repairable. The resistor is located next to the blower motor above the cover (passenger side, under glove box). Drop the cover and it is easy to locate near the right side. You don't have to completely remove the cover. Just the 2 outermost screws will let you pull the cover down enough to clear. That 3rd screw is a PITA. Unplug the module (it'll have 2 plugs, one at the module, and one from the module to the blower motor, one 7 pole plug and one 3 or 4 pole plug, depending on year/system) and remove the screws, it'll come right out. Depending on you model year, you may not have the updated module, which is supposed to last longer. If/when you replace the module, only use an OEM. There may be aftermarkets (Autozone, etc.) available, but they have proven to be inferior to OEM's.

If you have another similar year truck available, you can switch the modules to confirm the failure before buying parts, but it will likely be the problem.
