View Full Version : I got O/D lockout.
I am new with diesel and new with DMax. Mine is an '03. I bought it about a month ago at a auction with 14.3 miles on it as a lease vehicle that was never accepted.
Consequently I got no owner's manual but one is on the way.
Yesterday I was pulling the mud racer to the woods and used tow/haul and a O/D lockout light came on above my gauges.
I noticed that there are two icons on the shift lever. Apparently you push the button for tow/haul and hold it for about 3 seconds for O/D lockout.
Imagine my surprise.
I tossed the how-to-install O/D lockout I had downloaded from JK (I think).
Gonna spend that $ on a new
It's standard in 03.....

Maybe you 03 owners can answer this for us D/A 01 and 02 owners. If the 03 has a lock out for overdrive, is it ok to tow in tow haul without locking out the OD? Or is that just a preference thing in case you get in the big hills while towing? I wonder if it is a longevity issue with the 01/02 trans, by them always towing in OD. Maybe someone with an owners manual can let us know if it say's any thing about that. I might have to put an OD lockout on my 02. Thanks

You are absolutely right on this Wild Bill. If the grade is sufficient to reduce speed about 4-5 mph, Mr. Allison downshifts. In the hills is when you'd use it.

I got no owners manual but I watched the video and did get the supplement. OK to tow in O/D. I think the issue is that the tranny hunts around between 4 and 5.
You'd use the OD Lockout to keep your EGT's down, especially if you have the juice.

Skimmed the 03 manual. Basically says O/D lockout is to prevent shift business between 4th and 5th.

Thanks for the answer to my question, I guess I can relax when I'm towing in OD.I haven't notice the busy shift as much since I juiced the truck. Drive Safe, I didn't say slow, just safe!
