Art--From '83-'90 I ran 'Merit' and other cheap diesel fuel on LI, NY. My injectors were routinely eroded from water, filters {which i didn't change often} usually had some particulate visible, injection pumps wore. Since '91 I've only used quality diesel [Texaco/Exxon/Shell/Mobil, etc] with lubricity additive and filter change annually/20Kmi. No sign of wear/dirt beyond gradual injector decay. (This almost entirely in VW rabbit). There is a company "Risoli Diesel Fuel" in Hicksville whose business is providing premium quality diesel fuel{probably for standby stationary gen-sets}. I would advise installation of an additional fuel filter [call it 'primary' or 'secondary' ! ] and regularly draining samples before shopping for fuel by price this area. Having said that, i must confess that Mystic bulk transporters seem to service most dealers in the area....

Believe me, price isn't the real factor. If it's cheaper then this would be great but in reality I just want good fuel. I've already bought 2 cases of additive and have one bottle in the tank now, put it in before I drove away. I hadn't thought about a secondary water separator. How difficult is this to install? Any suggestions on which ones to get?

Thanks,
Art.
