Oil Pan...

Ever notice the shape of the stock oil pan?!? The old engine oil will never completely drain due to the crossmember (and the resulting clearance) that runs under it. About 1/4 to 1/3 of a quart of oil, and the accumulating sludge, will remain in the front protion of the pan. Does anybody make a properly shaped pan that will drain ALL the old oil toward the drain plug?? Guess I'll have to run the truck up on a set of ramps until I find a solution...

I generally drain mine, then let it down, and kick out the rear arms, and lift the front tires about 18" off the ground...

18"... I'll have to find a hill!! My jack/stands don't come close to that.

I just use my 3.5ton floor jack.
Jack up the driver's side to get under and open the drain, then move the jack to the front pass side to lift the side away from the drain plug, and when that stops draining, I move it to the front cross member for a few minutes to lift the front of the truck up and wait for it to finish draining.

Of course I also prefill my filter as much a possible as well.

But think about what happens with all those trucks/cars getting their oil changed by an oil change place. Open the drain plug, the flow slows to a trickle, close the drain plug and fill'er up.
