Hi All,

I read the archive article regarding the changes in the1999 engine. I assume that this only applies to HUMMERS? I have a 1999 and there are differences from what is in the article. Mine has a metal fan and a CAT where the article says in 1999 they had a composite fan and they removed the CAT. Also, my engine revs higher than 3000 RPM when I stay on it but my engine definitely takes 8 quarts of oil, not 7. Would love to think that my engine has slightly lower compression if true. Very confusing, anyone got any input to

VERY Interesting.....
My truck is '99 and It would seem that I have a mix of things listed. My truck will take 8qt if I let it drain without the filter on a hill for about an hour. :D On a regular fast oil change It seems to take about 7-7.5qt. my fan is metal, I have no cat but my truck is a 1ton thus does not have to have any extra "stuff". I suppose I'm gonna have to check my compression ratio. anyone know what the raw compression number should be?

There has never been a significant reduction in compression for the production 6.5. The 19 and 20:1 listings are incorrect.

What's the correct compression then?

Thanks,

General Engine products (AM General) Lists all "01" and newer commercial 6.5 engines with a 20.2 to 1 piston. Note, these are not the older General Motors 6.5's
