Is anybody aware of people running over 100,000 miles without injector problems. Also if the Dodge boys are running the same high pressure fuel system how come there not running into problems, no injector issues posted on their forum. I bought the diesel for longevity and would like around 250,000 miles before having to shell out big bucks. :D Dave

I would bet that there are more people with out troubles at that mileage then there is with by 3 or 4 times. I estimate there is around 125000 d-max's running around and I bet less then 15% of them have trouble. I could be wrong.. but I am a good guesser :D

I would bet waaaay less then 15%. 15% is a really high # imho.
With regard to the Dodges, 2003 was the first year that they had the Bosch HPCR fuel injection system. It took several years for injector failures to start appearing on the GM products and being posted on TDP. Give them another year or two.
I know absolutely nothing about the fuel filtration system on the Dodges. Maybe they did it right with a two filter system and with filters that perform extremely well at the 5 micron level. It would be interesting to take a fuel sample or two on the Dodges to see what they ended up with.
FWIW retail companies shoot for a 2-4% return rate. I know this isn't apples to apples but I find it hard to believe injectors failing at a 15% rate would be acceptable to the bean counters.

My 2001 HD2500 has 103850 miles with no injection problems and I have had the balance rate checked. The truck runs just as good as it did when I bought it in Febr. 2001, has had juice since 35000 miles and keeps on truckin with no problems.
I'm sure there are a lot of newbies out there that come to these forums and get overwhelmed with the 'bad' stuff. It's been mentioned before, these forums are a great place to go to when you have a problem. There are many knowledgable people who can help or at least steer you in the right direction. That's why it seems like there are a lot of problems, when in reality, there aren't.
If you read carefully for long enough, you'll see that its basically always the same thing - fuel problems, tranny won't hold a million hp, etc :D . Many fixes have been born here, and I'm certain there are many more to come.
There are a lot more Dmaxes on the road than are on the forums.
My .02 on why it seems there are more problems. If all anybody ever did was say how GREAT there trucks were, with no problems, it would be pretty lame around here... tongue.gif

I have 02 dmax with 73000 miles on it .it has been in the shop for a week now they called me today to tell me it has three leaking injectors
500.00 each to replace thank god for warranty
hope this is not a sign to come.

I think I read that Dmax production has been in the 120,000 unit-per-year range, for the past 3 years. That would mean over 300,000 of these engines out there, and I haven't heard many stories about failures. Especially when compared to the 6.0 Ford. Every other vehicle around here is a truck, and it seems like half of them are Dmax's, yet my dealer has had very little experience with injector problems. Maybe thats a good sign, eh?
Perhaps KOOLGT or someone else in the know could gives us a little positive feedback...??

I emailed the guy and asked him a few questions. No injector problems but the dual mass flywheel and the transfer case had been replaced
lOVE-HATE relationship with my '01 2500HD crew. Not a problem until Dec. of 02 with 112,000 miles. Since then, and over the last 60,000 miles; replacement of 14 injectors, injector pump, fuel pressure module, ECM. Multiple fuel line seal problems with fuel in the crankcase, multiple incorrect diagnostics from the dealer, 8 weeks down time, close to $12,000 in costs and no help from GM after repeated requests. I now have an injector ticking noise and white smoke at idle which means more injector problems. The good news is there has never been anything wrong with the truck except the fuel system. The bad news is GM's lack of response to dealer incompetence and the poor head and injector design that results in incredible parts and labor costs. I might but another one, but I am not a fan any more!
Thought maybe someone on the board here may be delivering RVs or boats with their Dmax'd truck. They would be the ones with the high miles at this point!

02 with 265k on it. 2 injector prob.at 215k,also leaking return lines & pump. Head crack discovered at this time also, however I believe it was cracked for a much longer time, due to continued loss of fluid for a year. Was a very small crack that could only be detected with a HOT Test. Funny thing was that "GM told dealer which head to test". Now how did they know that?Any way I do work this truck,loaded 70% of the time delivering trailers.I will buy another when the new motor comes out,but will wait for the 05 model.There are over 500 pick-up's working where I do & I do not belive the DMax is having any more problems than the other makes. The enclosed fuel lines & injectors was kind of stupid, but I hear all kinds of problems from other drivers that their F**d & Duds have,so it's not just a GM thing. :cool: Bill
Do you all use fuel additives? If so, how often and what brands?

I do use Power Service. Every 4th Tank of fuel (115 gal tank)in the summer. In the winter I use it every other tank.
