Well finally happened. Got to go and pick up my baby Friday night. 2002 Chevy CC LB D/A 4X4 Indigo Blue. Could not get the evil little grin off my face if you tried.

Couple of first impressions:
1. Who said these things ride like a truck. This truck is as smooth as silk going down the road. Go on the freeway on the way home from picking her up and was just "puting" along, looked down at the speedo and @*#$ 85mph. I though I was only doing like 55-60....

2. This brings up point 2. I am trying to do everything I can to break in this motor properly and get the high mileage option. It is said not to go over 55mph for the first 1000 miles. How the hell are you suppose to do that?!?!? The truck won't even slow down to that speed. Also you are suppose to vary the rpm's. How much is "vary"?? 100 rpm's, 500 rpm's how much?

3. Is it just me or does EVERYONE you pass have to gawk at you as you go by? Not that I mind that all that much..

And finally. Maintenance? I know that you are suppose to change the rear end fluid at the 500 mile mark but what are you suppose to change it to? Is it to early to switch to synthetic? What else needs to be done and when.

Thanks to you all and Happy truckin...

Hey There,

Have you read the article entitled, Breaking In A Diesel Engine? If not, READ IT!!!!!! It gives you in depth detail on how to achieve the best performance out of your new diesel. It is at:
www.ford-diesel.com Click on more articles, then on Feature articles, then on the article title. [Breaking In A Diesel Engine] I know people who have read the article, and the engines, be it a Ford, Dodge or [THE BEST] Chev, have done exactly what the article says they will do, at the approximate milage it says certain things will happen. EG. fuel milage increases, changes in the sound of the motor, etc.
Good luck and enjoy the truck[s].

Congratulations, and you'll find the grin will never completely leave your face! I've also been impressed with the ride quality, it's much better than my 99

Congratulations!!!! :D :D :D

I know what you mean about keeping the speed down, you have to lift off the pedal a lot to keep it under 65!

Well, I agree: read the article on breaking it in, but to me the specific numbers (speed, mileage) aren't as critical as the general gist of the procedure. I followed Dr. Lee's and John Kennedy's advice on break-in (very similar to the article) and it runs great, no oil consumption at all, good fuel economy, etc. I'd change oil, filter and diff fluid at 500mi. The factory fluid is synthetic but a little pricey, I use Amsoil.

I can think of 3(or 4) reasons why people gawk (in no particular order).

1. The gorgeous truck.
2. The color - Indigo Blue is pretty rare here in SD.
3. The insane grin you've got as you're driving it.
4. If your beautiful wife is in the truck, they're staring at her, too. ;)

Enjoy it and keep us posted!

Regards, Steve
