Canadian D-Max Re-sale

I have ordered my new 2003 D-Max Full load 2500 HD.
Do any of my Canadian freinds participate in cross border sales after a year and is it possible as some say to drive a new truck every year with very little cash output by selling to the U.S. ?

I dont know the hole story but there was talk about a month ago about "gray market truck"... something to the effect U.S. dealers not warrenty Can. models? This may not be true of gm but I think dodge is takeing a hard line on this!!!

After reading one of the earlier posts reguarding the sale of a Duramax 8000 miles, for a newer model for only $1500.00 , I JUST went back to my dealer, to do a trade (2002 for a 2003) for as close to $1500 as posible (Not in your wildest dreams) was the reply, maybe $5000 to $10000 to trade up.

There is info that a Dodge dealer in Great Falls Montana is bringing Candian Dodge Rams $7,500 under his invoice. So is he passing on these saving to his customers?????? HECK NO!!! it's a wind fall profit that he is pocketing. (wants another new airplane I guess) BTW on his airplanes he has the the initials "DP". Most people think it stand for name.....nope! NOPE!!
It stands for double Penetration, which is what he doing to his customers! :eek: :eek: :rolleyes:

Interesting topic. I am without doubt a well expirinced person when it comes to buying a new D-Max Crew Cab every six months. Six months is the magic time period. Once you have owned your D-max for six months and have at least 12,000 KM on it you are most welcome to sell your truck to a broker who will sell it in the US. Can you break even?? You should be able to come within a grand. I am picking up my fourth Duramax tommorrow and I only bought my first one 18 months ago. It does depend, however, on the price of the new one. You should be able to get around 49,500.00 Plus GST for a six month old D-Max crew cab loaded to the pin. If you have a good dealer relationship you may be able to buy the new one for around $50,300 plus GST. Only $900.00 difference. Not bad for driving a 50K truck for six months. This is totally legitimate and legal in every aspect. Advertise your D-max in the auto trader and it won't be long before the dealers come a calling. By the way, I actually sold my last two D-max's to local people who could not find one or at least a decent price on one. Only my first sale was to a broker. I know it sounds goofy, however, it is a fact. The trick is to factory order your next one the day you pick up your new one. On a factory order you should be able to get the dealer to go no more than one thousand over dealer invoice. tongue.gif

Well said Jason - it does pay to have your dealer move your vehicles across the 49th! Not only have I done it with a Duramax but both of my gassers (99 and 00 Z71) as well. My dealer has a broker who buys up as many low km trucks as he can get his hands on!! :D

So how can I tell If I'm buying a canadian import either new or used? Are not some of these trucks built there anyways?

I am not sure how you can tell on your end if a used D-max truck is from Canada. It doesn't really matter because they are all built at the same factory and from what I understand all heavy dutys are built in the USA. There is suppose to be a sticker in the door frame.

FYI, the way you can tell where a vehicle is made is by the first digit of the VIN.
1 = USA
2 = CANADA
3 = MEXICO

If gm ever follows Dodge and Honda's lead and decides not to honor warranties for these "grey market vehicles" should not the buyer know if he is going to get one of these units vs a car originally sold in US?
