Shifting under hard acceleration

When I shift under hard acceleration, it seems like my truck backs off power somewhat, shifts and then turns it back on. On occasion when it breaks them loose, it seems like all power is cut until traction is regained. Is this normal for the Allison? While my goal is not to spin down my rubber, I want to make sure there is not something funky going on. One thing to note is that this behavior was present before I added the Banks TLC kit. With the kit installed, it is just more noticeable.

This or some variation is normal. This is also why performance transmissions and trans controllers become necessary for best track times.
