Has anyone had this happen to there trucks? Three times now I have gone out and started my truck in the morning only to discover all the analog gages on the dash are reading 0. The truck works fine all the fuses are good all the dash lights work and the digital display works. The first time this happened the problem went away after 4 days just started it up and every thing worked for about 2 months.
The second time it went out it happened the exact same way in the morning start up no gages. I drove it for 2 days and finely took it to the dealer. Two days later they called and said come pick it up; when they looked at it the gages were working fine they also told me there were no codes pulled. That was last month and it has been working fine until yesterday.
Went out and started the truck in the morning and had no gages. The previous week I installed a Juice and Attitude monitor and after the gages went out I set the monitor up to display

A known issue. Refer your dealer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Gauges Inoperative (Reprogram IPC) #03-08-49-020 - (Nov 19, 2003)

Yes, I have had this problem as well. In my case it seems to be associated more with cold weather. When its cold, it is more likely to occur. Usually a single restart restores the guages but I haven't taken it to the dealer because I knew they would find nothing.

I agree it has always has started in the morning but here in California a cold morning is around 38* F. A second restart doesn

2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe

2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL

Condition
Some customers may comment that upon vehicle start-up, all instrument panel cluster gauges are inoperative.

Cause
During a cold start or low battery condition, a low voltage condition may cause gauges to freeze during crank cycle.

Correction

Important
DO NOT REPLACE the following clusters unless a reprogram does not correct this condition.

A new service calibration has been released to correct this condition. Reprogram the IPC using the new service calibration, which was available from Techline starting November 3, 2003 on the TIS2000 version 11.5 or later. This calibration is an electronic calibration and is not available from GMSPO.

Ok, here is my expierence with this problem. Here it is in the middle of summer here in Texas. So I don't think "cold" is causing mine. Gauges are out, but digital displays and dash lights work.

Ocurred first thing in the morning and throughout the day. Went through about 10 restarts. Are there any new fixes for the problem?

It also states "or low battery condition"

I suppose the low battery condition could be the cause for mine.

All I know is my gauges and batteries were acting normally one day. Cranking speed was normal and voltage was reading normal.

The next day my gauges didn't work, but voltage seemed normal, and no battery light on dash.

The next day my batteries were almost completly dead.

I have it on the charger now.

My optimas are only 2 years old. If they are shot I will be super ****ed.

Well after charging the batteries my gauges work now.... Have no idea what drained them. Don't know what caused the gauges to stop working, but the alt was obviously charging as I drove around all that day with the AC on.

With engine up to operating temp, I put the AC on Max, headlights on high, and with the engine ideling I show 13.6-13.8 volts on my charger/tester.
