I just purchased an '06 Duramax (9/05 production) w/ Allison 6 speed. I thought it would be an LBZ since it was produced in sept. (last quarter '05) but wonder how I can tell for sure? The sticker on the air cleaner says 310hp so maybe not.

look at your vin # and the eight digit will be a D i believe to be the LBZ, If it's a 2 then you have a LLY

If it says 310HP you have the LLY but the good news is I just saved 15% on my insurance buy switching to gieco...Not really but you do have all the new changes to the engine that the LBZ has. I test drove one myself and it really ran great compared to my 04.5LLY...Congrats on new truck...

Mine has the "2" for the 8th digit so it must be the LLY engine. When you say that it has all the upgrades does that include the beefed up block & rods etc. There is quite a list of changes on the LBZ. I'm thinking I might want to talk to the dealer before I put miles on it. Only 2,250 on it now. Has anyone owned both and can tell how the new engine works in comparison. I am thinking of towing a 3 car trailer and would like the extra torque I think. I was under the impression when I purchased it was that all '06 models had LBZ. Thanks all.

It is my understanding that all the changes are there but the HP and Tourqe are the LLY specs...Ask Kennedy for sure though...
