2005 LLY power increased

GM Canada released their Vehicle Order Guides today for the 2005 Silverado/Sierra, and the LLY is listed as 310 HP and 605 lb-ft of torque. The guide did not divide the power ratings by transmission availability, but I would assume the 310/605 is still for the Allison only.

Those are Canadian ft-lbs. Slightly smaller than US ones.

I didn't get to read the whole article(at the dentist office) but, the 2005 Silverado will be updated to keep up with those other trucks.

Hood and grille will be changed on the HD models to separate them from the 1500 series. As a side note, the 1500 series gets rear drums now instead of discs (it's about time).

the rear drums are standard with discs as an option. I haven't heard many people that are excited about this. Also there isn't a 16" wheel available on the 1/2 tons. 17's only but still no 17s on the 2500HD. Also no listing of this Torque and horsepower boost in the online order guide

For pure performance and braking power, I'll take rear discs every time. But for slogging through axle-deep mud and working around logging sites, drums are the way to go. When I worked in the service department at our local GM dealer, almost every half-ton bush truck with rear discs would need new rear pads before the warranty was up. We had trucks come in with the rear rotors grooved beyond belief at 6000 miles. And the worst pad was always the right inner. Some trucks were on their third set of pads by the end of the warranty. 2500HD and 3500 models weren't as bad. I don't think this is as much a cost-cutting measure from a production standpoint, as it is a warranty savings and customer satisfaction issue. Standard drums with optional discs is the best option, as everyone can be happy. Also note the 2003 S-10 had rear discs, and the 2004 Colorado, its replacement, has also gone back to rear drums, but with no disc option.

DMAX4LIFE: That's strange they don't list the torque increase in the order guide. In the 1500 series, do they show an all-aluminum Vortec 5300 with 310 horsepower? It's only available in the extended cab short box.
