winter front

I pick up my 02 ECSB dmax next week, with winter just around the corner should I be looking for a winter front for it? is so what is recomended?

I use the stock cover. I just put on the piece to go over the grill. There are lots of options in the after market for winter covers.

When you install winter front the temperature read out on the mirror will not be correct because the sensor is in front of rads but behind winter front so warm air gets locked in between during normal driving.

Does any one wish to share their opinion on the effectiveness of the lower (bumper cover) stock cold front's effectiveness? Will the upper grill cover work well on it's own or are both required for cold temperatures?

The upper cover works well on its own, but the lowest temperature that I had it on was around -5F.

The upper cover was around $80 and the lower one was running around $220 dollars at the time I got the upper one. The dealer didn't seem to think that it was really needed for temps in this area.

Being where you are from though it could drop another 20 degrees, so it might be worth it. You could try just sticking some foam to block the bumper holes to see if it was worth the price of the bumper cover.

My $0.02. I would not go winter without it. Sure keeps the interior more comfortable when it's
-20 or -30C. Also warms the engine up alot quicker.

As for the temp sensor, easy fix. Just move the sensor from it's stock location to the small opening for the driver's side tow hook. Works like a charm.

Thought I'd put my winter front here prior to posting on flea bay. I have a never-used (albiet dusty) 2 part (stock) winter cover that came with my 2001.

When I ordered my 2005, the dealer said that GM "required" that the winter front be included for orders from our area (Wisconsin). He said running in our -10F and colder weather can promote engine damage without one... that's what he said... I would have ordered it anyway though.

For the winter front on my 2001 GMC 2500HD D/A, I need a few of the little snaps that go into the plastic just under the front of the hood, that the winter front (upper) snaps onto...those like to fall out, so am missing like 2 or 3...if anyone has those/extras, can please contact me smile.gif

I need to pick up a winter cover for my '05 before the temp drops. Should I go with a factory one or is there an aftermarket alternative that is better and/or easier to install? I have seen some of the aftermarket stainless fronts for the same price as a factory one. Opinions?
