View Full Version : Allison filter baseplate discoloration
Hi all, I just bought a half a dozen Allison spin on filters from a company that has a very good reputation. When the filters arrived, the baseplates on all of them had brown spots (don't think it's rust, looks more like some kind of goo) and what appeared to be purple magic marker lines on the three tabs that are 120 degrees apart. I called the company I bought them from and he told me that they all are this way. Anybody know what this stuff is and why it is there? Thanks -rod
rod,
I checked the 4 Allison filters I have on the shelf and they also have brown spots a single blue ink mark. I don't think it's any thing to be concerned with.

Rod,
I took a second look at my allison filters and I would guess that the brown spots are splash marks left over from spot welding the mounting base to the filter can (??)

Thanks for looking. I think it's OK, it's just kind of funny that they let them out of the factory looking like that.
