Have been reading this page for some time, have now joined. I have an 02 with over 235k, 70% of it is towing all types of trailers. Amsoil bypass, installed at 15k ( best move i ever made)Downtime: 2 injectors at 225k, loose return lines at around 210k, ac & alt. around 100k. Not too shabby for a hard working truck, that delivers these trailers every part of the US, in every type of Temp. So far the only mod done to this truck was a 115 gal tank & filter, air bags, & Amsoil by-pass. Duramax is here to stay, for me. :D :D

HD90RIDER,

Thanks for the post. Encouraging to read your experience with the Duramax. I also deliver trailers with mine but reliability has just been awful. Multiple injector and fuel problems have been quite expensive. Truck is down right now with an oil leak (pour) from around one valve cover.

Just when I get to feeling the Duramax is absolute trash I read reports like yours that give me hope my problems are not typical and might stop.

Hi Turbo, the trailers i deliver are all different sizes, so no one wgt. have pulled little 17 footers(3500lbs.) & up to 40 footers(14,000 lbs.).Have hauled them through thr Rockies of Co., & across the deserts. I think the highest temp on the tranny has been 215 pulling a steep grade in 115 degree. At the same time 210 on the engine. This truck works well for all I subject it to.
Mal, I am wondering if injectors were changed from the 01 to the 02's !!? Another guy at work had an 01 and had a lot of injector prob.'s at only 80k.He also used the cheapest fuel he could find. I only use good grade fuel from name brand, primarily Flyin J

hd90rider,

I asked GM if the new injectors were a 'better quality' than the original ones. Never could source a real answer. In fact, GM reps. quite like my Ford experiences, don't offer any solutions or help at all.

"Call us if we can be of further assistance". Hell, they never did anything in the first place.

I tow fire-safety and police trailers all over the nation but mostly in the Summer. I'm retired so live and fish in Florida all winter. Federal jury duty has stopped my towing for the next three weeks. Lots of lost $$$.

Been asked for a complete 'signature' and have never bothered. This is the only time I expect to do this. This vehicle list is NOT complete. I just got tired doing it.

Sorry, hd90rider, before you can make any claims to mileage above 150,000, you have to let Hoot administer a lie detector test and submit a sample of your DNA. :D

Anyone remember who had the pics. posted, on changing the in-cab air filters? Can't find them. After this many miles ,guess I better change them,no one ever mentioned them at the dealer.

Hello hd90rider (Bill),

An RV puller eh? Now we can get the straight story on whether or not you guys stop every 50 miles and check the lug nuts on those brand new RVs..... just like it says to do in the manual

hd90rider, being a RV hauler, I hope you don`t crank up the trailer brakes like the guy did that delivered my 5er. He ruined all four brakes and bearing and even cracked one drum. He came over Monarch Pass in Colo. and the trailer must have been doing all the braking. Sounds like an interesting job you have.

Jomar, You must be a dispatcher !!! Always blame it on the driver. No Way could the trailer be bad it is new!! Does'nt matter they are just thrown together at factory
