View Full Version : Any injector failures w/ added filters?

With all the added filter set-ups being run by members, I was wondering if they are still having injector failures or if the added filtering is doing away with failures all together? If it has eliminated the failures which set-up is working and how many miles have been logged?

I have a customer that has experienced multiple injector failures. He added my filter setup some time ago, at the same time as they did a few of his injectors. He was heading in for injectors the other day. There were 3 that were in for about 15,000 miles before the filtration was added.

2003 truck

97k 3 injectors replaced

112k added Mega

133k other 5 injectors (had been acting up as early as 118k)

187k 2 injectors (these were in the position of the 3 installed at 97k) Traded truck in.

What does this tell us?

Nothing is foolproof, but it seems that the filtration MAY be helping.

Same customer met a 2003 Dodge owner with a "smoke puffer" at idle already...

Well I just put a Mega filter on my 2001 with 73,620 miles so I certainly hope that it will extend my injector life!

Tom,

Seeing your doing well with your injectors at 73kmiles, I'm curious what type of a additive(s) you are using (if any)? smile.gif

I've been using additives since day one. I had some Stanadyne left over when I traded my 99 6.5TD Tahoe in on the DMax. After I went through that, I bought some summer and winter formulas from Lubrication Technologies, but finally settled on FPPF Total Power, which is what I've been using steadily for over a year now. I add about 1 oz to 10 gallons, increase it by 1 oz per tank in the winter. That works out to 2 oz per fill in my OEM tank (36 gal, 24 usable) in summer, 3 oz per fill in winter - 3 oz per fill in my aux tank (43 gal, 32 usable)in summer and 4 oz per fill in winter. A case of 12 qts lasts about 18 months for me.

Thanks Tom,

I'm still using Stanadyne Performance Formula and a few oz's of 2-cycle oil (I bought a 5gal pail of Stanadyne few years ago when I still had my 98 6.5). I was just wondering if there is any correlation between the non-use of additives and injector failures.

put 8 injectors and a regulator in a truck that had filtration and additive, dont know when he added it but I assume its been there a while.....

added filtration won't guarantee longer injector life but it might help
