I have an 03 with the quad tuner set to 110hp. I am getting 16-17 hwy. This is the same as I was getting stock. Is this the norm? Hwy mph 75 average. How much will I lose with 265/75 size tires and a 4 inch exaust? Any suggestions on tires (100+ miles daily to and from work)? Thanks

i ran the 110hp vanaken for almost a year, i did see about a 2 to 3 mpg increase, ran similar speeds, also thought that my 285* 75*16 brought my rpm down by a couple hundred rpms, with your set up you should see a increase i would think, but am not sure about the quad tunning, is your truck broke in, this was a dramatic increase for myself

I have 15000 mi on mine, don't know if you could say broken in yet.Do you have any upgrade to the tranny with that stacked set up? Does the vanaken defuel for shifts? I can't run the 135hp setting without putting the tranny into safe mode. The 4 to 5 shift on a heavy pedal trips the tranny. What about the load rating of those BFs? I was under the impression BFs were only D rated. How much payload do you lose with a D rated tire compared to an E rated tire?

Murray,

I'd say move closer to work. In the mean time, get an Amsoil air filter, and use their syn oil. Greg is a member and a vendor, and sometimes a great guy. (Hi Greg :D ) If you haven't changed over to a syn rear gear lube... do so.

i have only ran this stack for three weeks,i do not have any tranny work done, and to date do not feel i am damaging it, but have been told that with the stack i have i will need to do work to the tranny, :D as for defueling, yes it does, as for the bfg's load bearing, the 285 are a d rated tire, which is about 200 pounds less bearing than a E rated, so far i really enjoy the ride of the tire

Fredw,

Nice signature photo you got there ;)

As for power mods, I am thinking about picking up a used predator. My understanding is that with any of the power mods, if your into the peddle a lot, you wont see the increase in MPG.

My `03 4 door dually has a K&N intake and filter, Banks 4" Exhaust, and an edge juice. I average 21 on the highway empty, and pulling a 10,000 pound trailer about 17.5 and freeway speeds(70+). The truck has 5,000 miles on it. Hope this helps.

hey diesels forever, if you're really getting 17.5 mpg pulling a 10000 pound trailer, then you're getting as good as, if not better than, most of us get just driving around town. I think you better check your mileage again. I think most of us get between 10-11 mpg pulling that much weight at those speeds.

Diddo,
Just got back from Wyoming towing my featherlite enclosed car hauler gooseneck 102" x 24' around 9800lbs. 1286 miles on the way back, I kept very close tabs on the mileage. Running 73 on the speedo with 285 tires(aprox. 78-79MPH actual) Had reg Juice on level 4 whole trip (no problems what so ever)averaged 10.4 mpg. Held 15-20 lbs boost most of the way. Only down shifted twice while traveling that speed with the cruise set the whole way. It was kinda dramatic but I just let it go to see what it would do. RPMs went to 3100 boost to 24.5 lbs and held for a couple minutes. just flat ran up a mountain pass like a scalded dog :D . It was kinda funny 'cuz some dudes in a Super Duty dually with an empty stock trailer passed us 2 miles prior, I told dad "wait 'till we get to that mountain". You know what happened......they were only doing like 55-60 up that pass. Zooooooom by the time we reached the top EGTs were around 1450* it shifted back into fifth EGTs dropped as we coasted down the other side.

BTW
Kennedy's 5" exhaust sounded sweeeeeeet during that climb, well like a Dmax on steroids ha ha ha :D not to mention the AFE stage II Hisssssss smile.gif

Not to be tag teaming ya Diesels Forever, but it looks like you may need to reset your avg mpg on the DIC when you hook it up to your trailer. (Though it would be impressive if you were truly getting that kind of mileage with that weight. :D ) Mine says 17.5 in the avg mpg too...and I have not towed anything....yet ;)
