Howdy,
I currently have a 2002 F350 Crew Cab Powerstroke and am looking at trading up to a 2004 Chevy 2500 Crew Duramax. Is there anything in particular I should be looking at with this truck? It has an automatic in it and is sitting at 19,000 miles. If you could give me any advice on this model year and buying a used Duramax I'd appreciate it!
Thanks

LLY or LB7 engine??? either way both are great engines. the Allison tranny is the toughest auto on the market. You'll love it.

I'm honestly not sure which engine it has. Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the two? I guess all I know is that it's a 2004 2500 with a Duramax and the auto tranny. Not sure if it's the 2004.5 or not though. Help would be appreciated.

Look at the VIN#, if the 8th number is a 1 it is an lb7 engine, if it is a 2 it is an lly engine. The lly is the newest engine out. Hope this helped.

What are the differences in the two engines? Have there been any major problems with the new engine? What's the warranty like with these trucks? Is there anything these trucks are known for that I should be looking for when I take it out for a test drive again?
Thanks!

since it's still under warr i'd just check the norm...coolant, oil, maintence, repair records. check to see if there fuel in the oil.

no major issues w/ the LLY and as far as the consumer is concerned, ain't much difference.

What is the standard warranty coverage on these trucks? I've heard 3yr/36,000 on the truck, then 5/75,000 on the injectors and 5yr/100,000 on the motor. Is that close to accurate?

5 years/100,000 on engine. 3 years / 36,000 on rest of the truck. On some 01's and 02's 7/200,000 on the injectors if you recieved a letter from GM stating that.

I thought when I purchased my 2004 new, they told me 3yr/36,000 bumper to bumper and 5yr/50,000 miles on the motor. Is that correct for 2004's?

THANKS!

Nope. As stated above, 5/100 on the engine.
