Emission Chice

Need some advice....
I am buying and 04 DMax. I'm fom CT, so I can get the Federal std emission. The dealer says to get the NY emissions. What is the difference to me, added complexity, loss of power or anything.

Dunno what NY is, but I'd suggest Federal as it seems CA has been joined by CT/MA/ME or something like that which adds catalyst and EGR.

I have no idea what the rulings are for registering a non spec emissions vehicle in these states. I know CA can be fussy...

If you have the choice.... I'd vote for NO CAT or EGR
on my new truck.

CA was the first state to mandate the CAT and EGR
in 2002..... so I went to Texas to buy my truck w/o
that extra baggage.

There probably is a minimal loss of power with the CAT,
but more importantly is that the CAT has a life span and
will need to be replaced well after the warrenty.
