    can anyone tell me the proper reading of the engine oil level on my 6.5L engine
    1996 6.5 K1500

    What do you mean?

    My 97 K2500 takes just under 7.5 quarts with filter change to reach the little stamped double circles - full mark on the dip stick. Stock size filter.
