talked to a Fram rep. before going on 800 mile trip with their 9100 filter. he said fram took the GM filter and made the 9100 to their specs. made trip o.k. no change in oil pressure. purchased a GM filter #97214983 $13.24, took off the 9100 and cut it and cut a used 2232 AC. the black GM filter weight was alittle over 500 grams and a new 9100 was alittle under 400 grams. inside alot of difference in pleats, AC with alot more. did not cut the black GM filter. the bypass valve in the 9100 is all in the bottom,2232 is partly made into the filter. the thickness of the can its self was AC2232 .020, 9100 was .014. AC much better looking filter, will Fram work? i had no problem, will use them on short oil change runs, but will have a black GM on when hitting the road. the truck ran great in the hills tow/haul is outstanding!!! with a 91/2ft. slide-in and three people in the cab, first tank 14 1/2 mpg, third tank was 15 1/2mpg. seems pretty good to me. trailer mirrors just flat out SUCK! thanks to all posted on fram filters awhile back

I think the question should be is, will the filter media hold up with all the oil pressure the Duramax has to offer???? If the balance of filter is of less quality and durability what would make anyone think the filtering media wasn't treated the same way in cost saving ways?? I wouldn't take the chance.....Ac delco (blue) for me or Isuzu (black) is all I'll use......

Your example shows again Fram is a inferior filter. A few sites claim also the bypass valve is
weak and opening under normal conditions. Clean
oil is the life blood of an engine. I'm Not going to try and save a few bucks on one important part
and pay up later because a filter wasn't doing it's job. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

The way I see it is that I can buy a Fram at Wallyworld for about 3 bucks. The AC is at least 9 or at most places. Where is that price difference going?? All into GMs pocket?? I doubt it. I bet at least a little of it is in better construction. Sorry no Frams for my 40k plus truck.

the most oil pressure i've seen on my truck is 75-80 on start-up and it carries 70 at 2000rpms. I've had lots of race cars carry that much or more on fram filters and never had one come apart inside or blow the can off. fram said they made it to GM specs, could it be to low side of the spec. and GM are made to high side of spec. it don't look as good as GM thats for sure, but it may still do the job. Has anyone ever compared a P-Stroke filter to any other brand? the GMC dealer where i bought gm black didn't even show a 2232 blue and showed me a paper saying not to use Anything but gm black. O-well back to a roll of CHARMIN I guess. thanks for all your input...

I run the HP series on my race car (565ci), and they work great. The HP series is very different from the standard units (take each apart sometime). I cut my filters apart every change, and there is a huge difference. My buddy ran a standard fram on his race car in a pinch one time, and the filter element inside collapsed allowing all the yuck etc to flow into the motor. Bearings were toast after that. The bypass on the stock filters is also very cheap.

So beware of the cheap filters....

Remember guys, the stock oil pressure gauge is not totally accurate. It only goes up to 80psi, but my SPA gauge has recorded 143psi just off idle at 42* ambient temp. The factory gauge was off by 63psi in that instance. That's a lot of pressure on the filter media and all internal parts of the filter.

I went to the parts guy at the selling dealer and asked for his best price if I was willing to buy a case of filters. He sold me 12 of the blue AC 2232 filters for $15 a piece plus taxes so the 12 cost me $207. In US dollars that would be about $9 (before taxes) a piece. Keep looking around. The deals are out there.

I'm with Hoot...just ordered a 1/2 dozen from GMPD today...$61 to the front porch! I was running Fram's on my last couple changes but I have decided to go back to OEM.
